Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your Nairobi hotel, setting off north at 07:00 through a landscape rich in natural beauty and cultural charm. Cross the Equator and skirt the slopes of Mount Kenya as the green highlands give way to the rugged, arid north. Arrive at Elephant Bedroom Camp in time for a late lunch, where 12 elegant tents sit among palms on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. In the afternoon, set out on your first game drive in search of Samburu's Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and gerenuk. Return to camp as the sun sets over the dramatic northern landscape.

Day 2
Day 2: Samburu National Reserve
Rise early for a morning game drive along the Ewaso Nyiro River, the lifeblood of Samburu, where elephant herds come to drink and leopard and lion patrol the riverine forest. Return to camp for breakfast, then spend the warmest hours relaxing by the riverbank, watching wildlife come and go from the shade of the palms. After lunch, head out again on an afternoon game drive with your expert local guide, followed by sundowners as the sky blazes orange over the hills. Tonight, listen from the comfort of your bed as elephants, buffalo and hippos wander quietly through camp, the experience that gives Elephant Bedroom Camp its name.

Day 3: Samburu to the Great Rift Valley
Leave Samburu behind and travel south through Isiolo, crossing the northern foothills of Mount Kenya to the town of Nanyuki. Head west to Nyahururu to see Thomson's Falls, where the Ewaso Narok River plunges 237 feet into a forested gorge. Continue south into the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Mbweha Camp in time for lunch. Set within the private 6,400-acre Congreve Conservancy on the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park, the camp's lava-stone cottages enjoy sweeping views of the Eburu and Mau ranges. In the afternoon, join an escorted walk through the conservancy, then enjoy dinner as the sounds of the African night settle in.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, set off with a picnic lunch for a full day exploring Lake Nakuru National Park. This compact park is one of Kenya's most important rhino sanctuaries, home to both black and white rhinos, as well as Rothschild's giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck and lions sometimes found lounging in the acacia trees. Depending on water levels, the lake's shores may be lined with flamingos and pelicans. Pause at Baboon Cliff for sweeping views over the lake and the Rift Valley, then enjoy your picnic lunch in a scenic spot. Return to camp as the sun sets, perhaps adding a night game drive or sundowners (additional cost).

Day 5: The Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara
After an early breakfast, travel south through Njoro and climb the dramatic Mau Escarpment, taking in sweeping views on your way to Narok, the bustling gateway to the Masai Mara and the heart of Maasailand. The route winds through Kenya's breadbasket, a patchwork of golden wheat and barley fields, before reaching the Mara in time for lunch. After a leisurely meal and a short siesta, head out on your first afternoon game drive across the vast savannah, home to lion, leopard, cheetah and great herds of wildebeest and zebra. Return to Tipilikwani Mara Camp as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in warm hues.

Day 6: The Masai Mara
Spend a full day exploring the legendary Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. Set out early, when predators are most active, perhaps finding a pride of lions finishing a night's hunt or a cheetah scanning the plains from a termite mound. Return to camp for breakfast and time to relax before heading out again in the afternoon in search of elephant, buffalo, giraffe and leopard. From roughly July to October, the Great Migration brings vast herds of wildebeest and zebra to the Mara, with the chance to witness dramatic river crossings. End the day with dinner at camp, sharing stories of the day's sightings.

Day 7
Day 7: Masai Mara to Nairobi
After breakfast, bid farewell to the Mara and travel back through the wheat and barley farms to Narok. Continue across the floor of the Great Rift Valley and climb the escarpment via the historic road built by Italian prisoners of war during the Second World War, passing the tiny chapel they built along the way. Arrive in Nairobi in the early afternoon, where you'll be dropped at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the Panari Hotel or the Ole Sereni Hotel for your onward travel. Alternatively, continue your safari with an optional post-tour extension to Amboseli.
