Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Your Private Journey Begins

Your private safari opens the moment you land in Nairobi, where your driver-guide is waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Poised between the city's energy and the wild edges of Nairobi National Park, your first stop offers a striking contrast — skyline views on one side, roaming wildlife on the other. With the rest of the day free, settle in at your own pace, or ask your guide about optional excursions nearby, from an elephant orphanage visit to a guided cultural walking tour. This is your first taste of Kenya's dual character: cosmopolitan and untamed in the same frame. Rest well, as tomorrow your private journey heads north into wilder country.

Day 2: Nairobi to Buffalo Springs, Into the Northern Frontier

Depart Nairobi with your private guide and driver, tracing a route through Thika's tea and coffee plantations before the landscape opens into Kenya's rugged north. Beyond Nanyuki, the road leads to Isiolo, the gateway town where the frontier truly begins. Arrive at Buffalo Springs in time for lunch, then set out on your first private game drive as the afternoon light softens over the reserve. Here the wildlife feels distinctly northern — different in character from Kenya's more familiar southern parks. As the sun sets over the plains, return to your lodge having glimpsed the beginning of a landscape defined by rare and specialized species found almost nowhere else.

Day 3: Buffalo Springs, Tracking the Samburu Special Five

A full day in Buffalo Springs is yours to explore with your private guide, built around two game drives bookending a relaxed midday break. Set out at dawn in search of the Samburu Special Five — the gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich — all species uniquely adapted to this arid northern terrain. Return for a leisurely breakfast, then unwind by the pool or on the terrace overlooking the river through the heat of the day. In the afternoon, head back out as temperatures ease and wildlife becomes active again, watching the sun drop over one of Kenya's most distinctive landscapes before returning to your lodge for the night.

Day 4: Buffalo Springs to Nyahururu, Highlands and Waterfalls

Leave the northern frontier behind and travel south with your guide through Isiolo, skirting Mount Kenya's foothills along a route lined with sweeping highland views. Pause in Nanyuki, a charming equatorial town, before continuing northwest to Nyahururu, home to the dramatic 74-meter Thomson's Falls. Stop at the equator itself for a private photo moment marking your crossing between hemispheres. After lunch, set out on a guided nature walk through the grounds before continuing on to the falls and the nearby Hippo Pools, where resident hippos linger in the shallows. It's a day of contrasts — dramatic geography paired with quiet, unhurried exploration.

Day 5: Nyahururu to Lake Naivasha via Lake Nakuru, Rift Valley Wonders

Head south with your private guide into Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya's most rewarding wildlife destinations. A private game drive through its varied terrain reveals prolific birdlife, both black and white rhino, and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe against a backdrop of dramatic Rift Valley scenery. After lunch within the park, continue with light game viewing en route to the gate before arriving at Lake Naivasha by mid-afternoon. Here, a serene hour-long private boat ride awaits — a peaceful way to spot hippos and an abundance of birdlife on calm water before settling in for the night beside the lake.

Day
6

Day 6: Lake Naivasha to the Masai Mara, Descending Into the Wild

Your private journey continues south, climbing the scenic Mau Escarpment for sweeping views across the Great Rift Valley before descending toward Narok, gateway to the Masai Mara. The route passes broad wheat and barley fields, a quieter agricultural counterpoint to the wilderness ahead. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and a short rest, then head out with your guide for your first private game drive in one of Africa's most celebrated reserves. As the golden light fades over the savannah, you'll have your first sense of why the Mara draws travelers back again and again — this is only the beginning of three full days in its heart.

Day
7

Day 7: Masai Mara, Days Among the Big Five

Settle into the rhythm of the Mara with a full day guided entirely around your interests. A private morning game drive sets the pace, followed by a relaxed break back at the lodge before lunch. In the afternoon, head out again with your guide, tracking the movements of lion, leopard, elephant, and the other members of the Big Five across the open plains. If timing allows, consider pre-booking a hot-air balloon safari for a sunrise view over the savannah unlike any other. As the light turns gold and the day's second drive winds down, return to camp with a growing list of sightings and stories.

Day
8

Day 8: Masai Mara, A Second Day in the Wild

Another full day unfolds in the Mara, your private guide shaping the pace around what's moving and where. Morning and afternoon game drives offer fresh opportunities to encounter wildlife in changing light, whether tracking predators on the hunt or watching herds graze across the grasslands. Between drives, the middle of the day is yours to rest, reflect, or simply take in the view from camp. For those who haven't yet taken to the skies, this is a second chance to pre-book a balloon safari over the plains. By now, the rhythms of the Mara — its light, its silence, its sudden bursts of drama — will feel familiar.

Day
9

Day 9: Masai Mara to Nairobi, Journey's End

Your private safari draws to a close as you depart the Masai Mara after breakfast, retracing the route through rolling wheat and barley fields toward Narok. Climb the Rift Valley escarpment along a historic road dating to the Second World War, taking in sweeping views one final time before descending toward Nairobi. Arrive in the early afternoon, where your driver-guide will see you safely to the airport or your hotel for onward travel. Before departing, consider a private lunch or dinner at a Nairobi institution, a final round of shopping, or one more cultural excursion to close out your journey through Kenya's wild north and storied south.
